Responding to your post of June 11:

I understand your frustration with Boren of Oklahoma. As a transplant to Oklahoma from the West Coast it was quite a shock to fall into the (to me) backwards political philosophies of the "natural born" Okies.
You think Boren is bad? Take a look at Fallon, Inhofe, and Coburn, Republicans all. They consistently vote however Jr. wants them to and diametrically opposite of how I would prefer them to vote, particularly Fallon, "my representative". As a tree hugging, flaming liberal it is EXTREMELY aggravating to be so impotent. Write to them and they send a polite but succinct "you're full of s--t letter" in reply, then blithely continue to vote for the war, against SChip, no regulation for corporations, ad nauseum. All the things that are near and dear to my heart are shuffled aside and ignored.
I am learning though, that Okies are an independent bunch that lean hard to the right. We have a Democratic governor, Brad Henry, and the governor vetoed a bill last year sponsored by the Republicans, that would have placed limits on litigation awards. He has managed to stay afloat even in this conservative environment. The conservatives are regrouping on that one and will forge a full scale counter attack, I am sure.
Why do I stay here? Simply, because I love it here. Lower property taxes, beautiful countryside, friendly people.IMO,all almost perfect places have a flaw, and in my estimation in Oklahoma it is the conservative leanings of the constituency. You can't have everything, I guess. In Oklahoma, a god fearing bunch of people, that flaw is their closed minded philosophies about politics. So, I have just learned to be prepared to be pissed politically most of the time and pray for gradual change. Maybe if enough of we West Coast people move out here, we will be able to make an impact on the political climate in this beautiful state. There has been a large influx of people from my old stomping grounds, so I am hopeful.
Unfortunately, Boren has to play to the base, and if he came right out and had the guts to endorse Obama, it would have been mighty hard to get re-elected. He is, after all, a politician, and in this right-leaning environment, he has to tread lightly to keep his job.
